Vintage Notes
In my four decades of winemaking, I’ve had the great pleasure of crafting wines from every corner of the Napa Valley. My inspiration for small lot wines comes from stepping out of the box
and culling different varieties from favorite vineyards. Each unique site produces grapes that exhibit a balance of daring personality and enveloping elegance, distinct with varietal expression, complexity of aromatics along with seamless balance that carries the wine to amazing heights. Syrah wine has a broad spectrum of styles around the world. Even in California the individual styles are quite diverse. I prefer the more restrained approach to Syrah, the old-world style, influenced by Napa Valley terroir.
This 2020 Trujillo Syrah falls perfectly into this varietal of expression, stylish and perfectly balanced. This 2020 Trujillo Syrah, the inaugural vintage, is all about the varietals fun, exotic, lush aromas. Incredibly forward and expressive with a slight rustiness, yet full of blue and black fruits, floral notes of violets, with sweet herbs, and a slight hint of gaminess. The wine is full bodied and delivers lavishly with enticing flavors of plum, black cherry, black fig, accompanied with a hint of cured meats on the finish. Beautifully laced together by fine-grained tannin, perfectly balanced acidity – giving flight, structure, and length.
This Syrah is true to its varietal attributes – easily enjoyed on its own anytime, and also favorably pairs with a wide variety of cuisines. This wine will gracefully cellar, but with proper decanting
can be enjoyed now. Drink within the next six years to capture all of Syrah’s personality. Enjoy!!
