Winemaker’s Tasting Notes
The 2021 Terra 9 is a sun-kissed vintage with opulent fruit, rich aromatics, and an irresistible silky roundness. Fragrant notes of black cherry, bay leaf, cedar, and dried winter savory waft from the glass, with darker aromas of blackberry compote and river stones just behind. The broad, full palate luxuriates in ripe black fruit, espresso, golden caramel, and the blackest of black cherries, while the signature minerality of Terra 9 hums in the background with bright red fruit accents. Sweet baking spice on the midpalate lingers through the lengthy finish of ripe raspberries, boysenberry pie, and subtle mint tea.
The Vineyard
Terra 9 starts in the vineyard, utilizing vineyard blocks that have been identified by the winemaking team. It receives the cool breeze from the Bay at night and warms up during the day. These blocks are monitored closely throughout the growing season, and canopy management, pruning, and dropping fruit are all carefully supervised.
Vintage Notes
The year started off with very little rain. The long warm summer led to a natural load of smaller grapes full of flavor. We avoided heat spikes in our vineyard, harvesting just in time to keep the ideal grape size.
