Description
WINEMAKER NOTES:
A Manhattan-based sommelier tastes some Washington State wines and is so inspired, he sells everything to move across the country to make his own. That’s the start of the story of Gramercy Cellars, where a close eye on the grapes (picked for almost-peak ripeness, mostly organic), matched with minimalist wine making techniques (no or little new oak, no additives) and a lot of time (extended aging) has created wine that’s considered some of the best that Washington offers.
“Elegant wines take some thought. Think Miles Davis versus Vanilla Ice. They take time to open up and develop, but they don’t fall apart in 5 years. That’s what we’re aiming for at Gramercy.”
TASTING NOTES:
Screams Cabernet all day. Laser focused & elegant. Pencil shavings & graphite. Not a dainty yellow #2, a huge, 2nd grade red pencil. Predominantly red fruits. Mushroom, gravel, cedar, dark chocolate, smoke. Dust/dirt. Acid is medium+ with sexy, developed tannins. Huge, long finish. Very serious. Slight herbal edge. Oak 100% integrated. Bottom line, wow.
Drinking Window: 2022 – 2044, otherwise decant for at least 2 hours.
