Canepa Koch Wine Cellars is a partnership between Mark Canepa and Neil Koch. Together Mark and Neil have over 25 years of wine industry experience. Mark and Neil have known each other since 2004 and both were recruited by Seguin Moreau (Cooperage in Napa Valley) and they both took Sales positions. They quickly realized that if they combined their skills and resources they could launch something exciting. Their goal is to create wines that are well rounded, enjoyable and affordable.
WINEMAKER NOTES:
Our 2021 red blend is from fruit sourced from multiple Napa Valley Ava’s including, Calistoga, Coombsville, Rutherford, and Howell Mountain. The wine spent 16 months in 42% New French oak.
TASTING NOTES:
The aroma of this wine is immediately captivating, revealing a bouquet of ripe black fruits such as blackberries, black cherries, and plums. These luscious dark fruit notes are complemented by nuances of cassis and currants, adding complexity and depth to the nose. Subtle hints of cedar, tobacco, and a touch of vanilla from oak aging contribute to the overall aromatic profile.
On the palate, this Bordeaux blend displays excellent structure and balance. Its medium to full body carries a velvety texture that coats the mouth. Ripe black fruits dominate the palate, providing a burst of flavors reminiscent of blackberries, dark cherries, and plums. The wine’s firm tannins lend a pleasing grip, contributing to its age-worthiness. Notes of dark chocolate, toasted oak, and a hint of baking spices add layers of complexity and sophistication to the wine’s profile. The acidity is vibrant, offering freshness and ensuring a long, elegant finish.
